Sample Uses of Beyond Question: Middle School

Skill:

Geography - Country Identification

Method:

Prior to starting a new lesson, present two to three questions to determine if the students read the chapter. Based on the feedback, you will know if they are prepared for the lesson, allowing you to move through the lesson at a normal pace. After 10-15 minutes, ask a couple of mid-lesson review questions about the material just covered. Based on the results, you can modify the pace of the lesson if necessary. At the end of the lesson, ask three to five review questions to make sure they understand the main points of the lesson and understand their next assignment.

Benefit:

Teacher gets an easy way to verify that the students are prepared for class. Students do their homework and remain alert and focused because they know questions will be asked. Immediate review of the questions allows the teacher to correct any errors or misunderstandings and the students build confidence with their correct answers.
