Sample Uses of Beyond Question: Higher Education

Subject:

Information Systems - Network Communications

Method:

Prior to starting a new lecture, present two or three questions to determine if the students read the chapter. Based on the feedback, you will know if they are prepared for the lecture, allowing you to move through the lecture at a normal pace. After 10-15 minutes, ask a couple of mid-lecture review questions about the material just covered. Based on the results, you can modify the pace of the lecture if necessary. At the end of the lecture, ask three to five review questions to make sure they understand the main points of the lecture and understand their next assignment.

Benefit:

Professor gets an easy way to verify that the students are prepared for class. Students do their homework and remain alert and focused because they know questions will be asked. Immediate review of the questions allows the professor to correct any misunderstandings and the students build confidence with their correct answers.
